SYNOPSIS
Shenandoah Moon is the often funny, sometimes poignant, always lively coming-of-age story about a family, a community, and a nation at odds over holding on to the past and changing things for the future. Teenaged Kathy Shiflett has grown up in the Blue Ridge Mountains on her family's apple farm. Life is hard but often happy. Kathy loves her home yet dreams of adventures beyond the ridges. When the government decides that the Shifletts' land, as well as land belonging to many other mountain people, should be forcefully bought and converted into the Shenandoah National Park, Kathy's world is shaken to the core. Some neighbors accept the plan. Some fight it through the courts while others use their guns. Kathy's family must decide if they should given in or fight. And Kathy's new love interest — a handsome young CCC worker whose job it is to tear down cabins and build the park — begins to challenge her way of seeing things. Through word, song, and dance, Shenandoah Moon relates these times of hope, fear, anger, defiance, and acceptance.
This delightful musical was written by talented local favorites Duane Hahn, Barbara Spilman Lawson, Elizabeth Massie, and Richard Adams. Shenandoah Moon promises to deliver audiences a full evening of great entertainment (and you may even learn a bit of local history while you're at it!). You won't want to miss this exciting premiere!
